Taipei, Taiwan – Apr 25th, 2022 – MiTAC Computing Technology Corp, an industry-leading server & storage solution provider for edge and cloud, today announced its partnership with KDDI for single-phase immersion cooling proof of concept in Japan's edge datacenter. With MiTAC OCP computing server installed in the immersion tank, the power consumption of the edge datacenter is reduced by 43% compared to traditional data centers, and the PUE value (power usage effectiveness) dropped from 1.7 to 1.07.

"As businesses are moving to the cloud, the increasing demand for servers and data centers brings the issue of rising energy consumption", said Danny Hsu, Vice President of Server Infrastructure Business Unit of MiTAC Computing Technology. "We believe that immersion cooling design is a good as well as future solution to reduce power consumption and minimize environmental impact, especially CPUs and GPUs have its physical limit in reducing power consumption."

MiTAC is a leader of the OCP Taiwan regional community, concentrating on OCP hardware design and development. With front IO access and a power bus bar design at the rear, the OCP server not only makes maintenance easy but also offers more expansion slots by saving the IO spaces.

MiTAC will continue to cooperate with KDDI to develop an immersion cooling solution. The goal is to provide severs to KDDI for high power-efficient edge datacenter deployment in 2024. Through the collaboration with KDDI, MiTAC also shows its sustainable investments in the ESG.
