Empowering Cloud Scalability: Parler Cloud Technologies and MiTAC's Revolutionary OCP Hardware Collaboration

Products: E7278,

Background Introduction

Parler Cloud Technologies is at the forefront of designing and implementing private, hybrid, and multi-cloud solutions using open-source software and hardware. As the first OCP Solution Provider to run Triton SmartOS on an OCP-recognized hardware platform, Parler offers a highly scalable cluster and hosted cloud, significantly reducing time and cost with single-point management.

In collaboration with MiTAC, Parler integrates a seamlessly unified Kubernetes environment on MiTAC's Tiogas Pass Ultra servers, an OCP-certified hardware solution. This partnership delivers a fully operational, integrated cloud solution, meeting the diverse needs of modern IT operations.

Challenge

The open nature of the OCP ecosystem demands that both hardware and software adhere to OCP specifications and be based on open-source principles. Parler's Enterprise Private Cloud solution employs Triton SmartOS, an open-source container hypervisor, allowing developers to utilize open hardware specifications from the OCP Wiki without IP concerns. However, Parler needed a hardware partner to meet the challenges of scalability and efficiency. Generic server systems, typically designed for single-server deployments, often lack the features and architecture necessary for massive scaling required by cloud applications. Scaling these systems involves cumbersome manual configurations and they often miss sophisticated resource management tools essential for efficient cloud deployments. Furthermore, generic systems may not offer the granular security controls needed for multi-tenant cloud environments, nor are they optimized for cloud-specific features like auto-scaling and containerization.

Solution

MiTAC, a committed member of the Open Compute Project (OCP) since 2015 and an OCP Platinum member, provides cutting-edge OCP hardware solutions. Parler Cloud Technologies partnered with MiTAC to offer a robust Enterprise Private Cloud hardware solution, tackling the challenges of highly scalable clusters and hosted cloud applications head-on.

MiTAC delivered an L11 server rack integration solution, including 21" Open Rack v2 equipped with E7278-U (codename Tiogas Pass Ultra) Intel OCP servers. MiTAC's expertise in server, storage, and network switch installations, power cabling, hardware configurations, integration validation, and platform testing ensured a seamless deployment at their manufacturing facility.

Parler's Enterprise Private Cloud solution leverages MiTAC's E7278-U servers—a high-density 2OU 3-node system—and Triton SmartOS, an open-source hypervisor platform. This combination runs the integrated Kubernetes environment, automating the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. A single rack can support up to 936 cores of Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors, 15TB of memory, and 624TB of NVMe storage.

Benefits

With MiTAC's OCP hardware and open-source Kubernetes running on the Triton SmartOS platform, Parler's Enterprise Private Cloud solution effectively addresses the limitations of generic server systems in handling highly scalable clusters. The solution's tool-less design simplifies maintenance, while its high power efficiency reduces operational expenses (OPEX). Compatibility with MiTAC's 21" Open Rack v2 further enhances flexibility.

Moreover, MiTAC's L11 rack integration significantly cuts down IT rack deployment time in data centers, providing Parler Cloud Technologies with a reliable and efficient infrastructure for their private and public cloud deployments.
